It seems that whenever a new Pokemon is revealed, there are always people who dislike it either because of how different it looks from gen 1 Pokemon, being based on inanimate objects, or many other reasons.
Funnily enough, these reasons don't really explain why such designs are genuinely "bad"

So I wanted to ask you what makes a Pokemon design bad or good for you, WITHOUT USING EXAMPLES XDXDXD

I don't know for others but I like cute designs (if it's cute I like it more, if something isn't cute I like it less). It's a personal taste :yesyes: so I never cared if they look like the first generation or not (sure, the inanimate objects are strange, funny and maybe stupid but Klinklang is awesome! XD)
I used to don't like Pokémon with "bad" designs (Gliscor is an example for me) but after using them in the competitive I started to like them. Maybe people only need to get accostumed to these new Pokémon and nothing else... or maybe they are only too much attached to the first generation :yeahyeah:
(let's say that the ones with the most strange designs sometimes are the strongest ones :uhm: Metagross, Foongus, Ferrothorn are some examples :yesyes: )

Generally, I personally don't like Pokemon with clothing. Most Pokemon are supposed to live in the wild, and for them to have clothing-like body parts is kind of awkward. Other than clothing, it doesn't look nice when Pokemon have useless body parts, such as spikes that are too long. It takes away the feeling that they are adapted to life in the wild, and instead looks like it was designed to be made into a toy.

On the other hand, I like Pokemon that are heavily influenced by real animals. It's really nice to see Pokemon that have strong animal traits, but still manages to be a Pokemon by being combined with a type element.

About the first thing... maybe they interacted too much with humans and started to change :yeahyeah: this can explain why in Alola Pokémon started to change their type/forms... but like you, I prefer Pokémon that seems animals or creatures from myths.

I think I don't have a "pattern" of what kind of Pokémon I like, as I like a lot of Pokémon for being cute (Emolga, Clefairy...), other ones I like for being "cool" (such like Dragonair, Scyther, Haxorus, Serperior), and there are also the ghosts types, which I like for being funny (Gastly/Haunter/Gengar and Banette).

The only kind of Pokémon I dislike is the human-like ones.

Haha I actually like humanoid Pokemon. I understand that most of them aren't exactly "favorable" designs for Pokemon, but to me, a lot of them look really cool.
