Oh, the Game Boy... The monochromatic Nintendo's console was the device that introduced many people to the world of the portable consoles. Was also the device which brought to life our favourite videogame series, Pokémon. Released over 25 years ago, this magical device still bringing good memories for the old-school gamers. And in a age where "nostalgia" and "old-school" is, for some reason, trendy, a small californian company called "Hyperkin", had an idea: Why not turn our high-tech smartphones into a (something like) old Game Boy? The project started as a April Fools' joke, but was so well-received by the public that Hyperkin decided to turn it an a real thing... That is how the "Smart Boy" has born. The first working prototype of the Smart Boy was presented at E3, it looks like a GameBoy-like "half-case" with "physical" buttons. It has two main functionalities, the first one, is provide a alternative way to you to play in emulators (allowing to play using buttons, instead that horrible touchscreen controls), and it also is compatible with classic Game Boy cartridges, thanks to a slot located in its back! (how cool it can be?) The device was designed to work with iPhone and Android devices, and its release is expected to December 2016. Sources: TechTudo (in portuguese) and Neowin.
