To be honest, I'm not absolutely satisfied with the two episodes we've seen so far.
First, it's a problem that's inevitable due to the short length of the episodes. Each episode shows us too little. Ep. 1 basically shows that Red went through all six regions and even met Zygarde 100%, which we as game players never did. I don't know what the point was for them to show this. Does this mean that we'll see Red's adventure after he beat the Kalos league? It's too difficult to connect or expect it with anything now, and that's uncomfortable to the viewer. Ep 2 was also extremely brief. All we got to see was Looker make a useless effort to break into the Viridian gym where he doesn't even get to meet Giovanni, and the episode ends there. I really can't help but with the episodes were longer
Second, is a petty complaint about the art style. It's just not that good. The level of detail is not good enough for my taste, and the characters' expressions aren't as lively as I'd expect them to be. But this is purely just my preference. I'm sure there are those who didn't have a problem with this.
Despite these disappointments, Pokemon Generations seems to have some good charm that we normally aren't able to see anywhere else. The first episode was directed really well by showing the adventure in Pikachu's point of view. Because of this, every scene is interesting, action-packed and exciting. I especially liked the realistic approach they made by making Volcarona's Heat Wave clear instead of they typical fire-type-red, and Pikachu blocking it by flipping a tile using Iron Tail. That was very very impressive. I Also loved how the Pokemon world was realistically depicted in ep.2. Looker, as an international police officer, tracking down crime boss Giovanni made the situation look much more serious that it has ever been shown in the anime. They even have police units that use Pokemon like Machamp, Arcanine and Magnemite that can break through, melt down and hack open barriers in their way. I thought this was a very practical way to team up with Pokemon, which I always love to see.
Something about ep,2 tells me that Game Freak was trying to tell us that the international police was investigating team rocket all the way back since gen 1, even if we never got to see them in the games. Perhaps they're going to use this to connect the stories between the generations.
Anyway, these are my thoughts about Pokemon Generations. I still can't wait to see more episodes !
