Which would you prefer: an anime that covers Ash & co or an anime with the newest protagonist(s)?

The question is really simple: would you prefer Ash as the main characterfor the anime or you prefer something new?

I want for every generation to have his games protagonists... like in Pokémon Special.
I really want to see a new story where a new trainer starts the journey and end up at the league (or if they addo something like the contest to challenge them). So I want both the new characters (male and female) in the anime.

Newest...To be honest I've been a bit sick of Ash for a long while, especially with the no win streak they keep him on...

I wanted him to win at least once

It's hard to say. Even that sometimes I get a bit sick of Ash, I can't say that watch his adventures were waste of time.
I prefer wait until Sun & Moon to say something about ash.

About the anime with a new protagonist every new generation, well this is like a "two-edged sword", 'cause in one hand, it would be a "different flavor" each new generation, but in the other hand, maybe you could get that feeling of - for example - "I don't like Hilda, Dawn was far away cooler than she is! #IwantDawnBack".

The good, the bad, I think until now Ash's journey had more positive than negative aspects.

Yeah I know... There is also a moron in this forums who wish for Iris come back, who would like the return of that little brat?

But, you see, this feeling would be even worse, as we would be talking about the protagonists of the anime (as I can't see Misty, Brock, May, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Clemont and Bonnie as protagonists with too few episodes focused in those characters).

What I was trying to say is that nowadays, it is easy to us "burn" Ash, say that we don't want him in the anime anymore, because Ash's figure was ruined along the years, we saw him lose leagues in the most incomprehensible ways, we saw him make many silly things, and everything contributed to make Ash doesn't seem as relevant to us as he used to be. So, it is a easy question to most of us today.

But, let's go back and ask this question right after the end of the indigo league. There is a big chance of changing the answer.

Let's take Digimon as an example. I don't know how are the Digimon fans in your countries, guys, but here in Brazil, even the people who actually enjoyed the second, third, fourth (...), generations of the Digimon anime, used to say "Oh, the 'x' generation is really great, but it isn't as good as the first generation is", and then, Digimon Tri (is this the name?) came out, and all the Digimon fans got crazy, because what? Because the first characters were back and the first are better... Because of human affective memory, these characters, of the first generation, bring back good memories, not only from Digimon but from their (Digimon fans) lives. So, we can understand the reason of all this love for the first generation.

But, Ash, he didn't get this "affective memory", because he "grew up with us". We don't miss him. Maybe the character who gets this kind of "treatment" was Misty, who many people love deliberately... But when you look attentively to her character, you see some similarities between her and Iris... The most hated "Poké-Girl". So why is Misty loved and Iris hated? Affective memory, Misty bring us good memories of our childhood with Pokémon, while Iris, bring us bad memories of the Best Wishes generation, which many of you disliked. And this probably is one of the reasons why I actually like Iris, because was the Best Wishes generations which makes me rediscover Pokémon.

After all this speech, I think I got completely out of the context, but I hope you can now understand what I'm trying to say.

Regards.

Well... I don't agree for the affective memory thing... I like Ash but I at the same time I got tired of him. And if we talk about memory, I like Red, I'm happy when I see him in the anime (Origins, Grnerations) but I think I will get tired even of him if we see him too much :uhm: and that's why I like Pokémon Special, because there's a lot of different characters for every region (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow for Kanto, Gold, Silver, Crystal for Johto and so on) and sometimes they make a return for some chapters but nothing more. It's true that some of the PokéSpe characters aren't my favorites but I liked the story even if I don't like the character (or anyway, got to like them when the story went on). So I don't see why not changing characters... :uhmm:
About Misty, May and the others, like before it's not because I have an affective memory of them but because I liked their characters, so that's why I wanted to see their development in more different regions :yesyes2: :sisi2: I'm happy when they make a cameo for some episodes or for a mini arc/side adventures because I'm happy to see them again and know what they accomplish in the time we haven't seen them :yesyes2: :sisi2:

Talking about Digimon, there's some series that I don't like (I think the 4th one and the 5th one) but that's not because of the characters but about the story and the Digimon Fusion (I don't remember how it's called. I think @Shinso Vampire Nagato knows better than me). And about Tri, like I wrote before, I like when some old characters return to the show :yesyes2: :sisi2:

That's what I think :yesyes:

Someone say my name?:hi: Fusion is the localize name while Xros Wars is the original.

But sorry to say while the memory thing makes sense I can't agree cause it doesn't really apply to me. While there are some moments in the Indigo Plateau that were memorable but never really left much of an impact, personally I like Gen 4 the best out of all the Seasons, cause it was at this point where I find the anime to be refined to perfection. They had Paul who was a rival which was the complete opposite of Ash, Dawn who decided to follow in her Mother's footsteps, and overall they all had multiple rivals none of which were annoying in any way and they shared some of them as well. Ash's lost in this league I was completely Ok with cause his opponent had a Pokemon which even we have problems defeating, and he even had a good strategy with Heracross who has complete type advantage.

Out of the Digimon Series I like Adventure 02 the best and that's cause of the concept of DNA Digivolution, but in terms of storyline I like Digimon Tamers (Series 3) the best due to how dark the storyline is along with the introduction of Beelzemon! Frontier was also pretty awesome because of the concept of the humans becoming the Digimon and bringing in another Omegamon like Digimon in the form of Susanoomon...

Yes XD I summoned you roftl
I know that Fusion is Xros Wars but if I remember well, there's a series where the Digimon and humans fuse or something like that (the 4th or 5th series??) but I don't know what it's named :nono:

Digimon Tamers (Season 3) Bio Merge in order to go into their Mega forms they merge together. First one to do so was Takato and Guilmon to become Dukemon in order to fight Beelzemon:prof:

Probably the series continuing with Ash/Satoshi.

It would be nice to see a spin off series that had the main characters of the games though.

And I'd prefer it not to be dark at all. a.k.a the rival character gets all emo and thinks he's the chosen one because his clan/family were attacked/murdered by Pokemon and now he's a self-proclaimed "avenger".

I really wanted the anime to change main characters at some point and give us a whole different story with diverse characters every season. The way they're constantly using Ash is getting too repetitive and boring for the fans that have been watching for 20 years. A good example is the Digimon anime. Their main characters change every season and the story doesn't follow a fixed format. This is why most people agree that Digimon's first 4 seasons is a better anime than Pokemon. In Digimon, time actually flows, and we can see the old main characters aging and maturing. They would sometimes reunite with the newest main characters and make a really epic episode. I think if the Pokemon anime became like this it would resemble something like the Pokemon special manga. If that actually happens, I would seriously start watching the Pokemon anime again.

Even if this is my hope, I think the Pokemon anime is just fixed on using Ash. There are other anime series like Pokemon where time doesn't flow and the main character always stay the same. Most of these anime (Such as Doraemon or Crayon Shin-chan) series are considered less mature than Pokemon, but I think we have to acknowledge that Pokemon itself is just trying to be categorized as one of those kinds of anime.
